Secrets Silversands, Cancun Riviera, Mexico

I’ve had lots of questions and general interest about where I stayed in Mexico so this blog post will provide you with all the details.

This June I packed my bags and set off for the Cancun Riviera, where I would be whisked away from the airport to the all-inclusive, Secrets Silversands resort. The allure of the resort lies not only in the amazing reviews, but the sheer exclusivity of the brand as a whole (sometimes treat yourself to a luxury holiday!) Let me just tell you, Secrets Silversands lived up to the hype in all aspects!

Arrival –
To start, the first thing that will catch your eye is the grounds. Beautifully laid out, with gardeners tending to them around the clock, it’s immediately clear that they want you to feel like you’re in paradise. The buildings throughout have a simplistic feel with neutral tones, which I personally really love.

As a member of the “Preferred Club” I had the benefit of a superior room location, and the added privilege of a separate concierge, accessible only to those with a club key card. Also in the concierge lounge is a bar serving top shelf, premium alcohol, small snacks and finger foods throughout the day. For those who are inclined to take their work with them on their travels, you’ll even find computers, wifi and a printer. Though this was nice and the location of my room great, I didn’t personally make much use of the facilities the preferred club offers, and so cant really justify the price of this added extra, although this may not be the case for you.

Room –

I chose to stay in a ‘swim out’ room, and on seeing it for the first time, I was absolutely stunned. Unusually spacious and beautifully designed, it felt like a suite even though it wasn’t. The bathroom featured a walk in shower big enough for six, his and hers sinks, and a hot tub (icing on the cake!).

The colour scheme of the room itself very much echoes the outside of the resort; cool, neutral colours, with a simplistic decor. The large L-shaped sofa in the corner of the room nicely complemented the king sized bed, and didn’t compromise the space available. Of course, no hotel room is complete without a TV, and Secret Silversands supply a large flat screen, although with views like those from the pool, who’s watching TV?

The light and airy room leads out to a balcony with a sofa and chair set looking over a pool, shared with those in the rooms next door. As well as the sofa and chairs, each room comes with a set of two sunbathing chairs which are different to those around the pool.

Food –
Food at the hotel is plentiful and there is always something to eat, regardless of the time of day. I have a tendency to ask for my food to be made spicy and this request was always catered for, which is a small touch I always appreciate.

One of my favourite features of the hotel was the ‘Coco Cafe’ which was open 24 hours. This meant that I was able to get a caramel latte at any time of the day, literally. Throughout the day, the Cafe serves numerous tasty desserts and sandwiches with an assortment of teas and coffee.

Breakfast is a buffet with lots of options; even the fussiest of eaters will find something to eat. You are able to have your eggs, in any form, cooked to your preference, with any fillings you desire, all made right in front of you. There are the usual continental options available, a selection of pastries, and of course a large selection of Mexican foods, including quesadillas, burritos and empanadas.

Somewhere to grab a bite for lunch is never more than a few steps away. My favourite spot is the ‘Barefoot Grill’ which as the name suggests, is an outdoor grill, next to the main pool. Chicken burgers and fish are freshly grilled here, and also served is a selection of nachos, fries, pasta and fried chicken with a large salad bar to choose from too.

Dinner is a more formal affair with a choice of seven restaurants including French, Italian and Oriental cuisine. I personally love the Oriental restaurant and visited it a couple of times. The freshly made spring rolls and prawn tempura are to die for!

Another feature that Secrets resorts offer is the ‘unlimited all-inclusive’ package. This provides guests with the added option to order room service at any time of the day. I was very partial to this feature, particularly on mornings I was too tired (and hungover) to go to the breakfast buffet. I like that there is an array of foods available and that room service will try to accommodate any orders that might be different to what’s on the menu.

All in all, I enjoyed the food and the number of dining options available to guests who stay at Secrets Silversands.

Swimming &/ Water Facilities

Secrets Silversands really spoil guests with the eight pools, two hot tubs and beachfront setting. There is a large main pool which also boasts a swim-up bar providing alcoholic beverages and cocktails. If you are someone who prefers peace and quiet, and who wants to be away from the excitement of the main pool, there are six other smaller pools dotted around the resort. In addition to this, there are two hot tubs, one of which is warm and the other hot, which overlooks the beach.

The private beach is a small-ish stretch with sun beds on the sand for beach lovers to catch some rays. The water is a crisp blue which appears see-through in parts, especially when the sun is shining. As you can see in the main image, the beach features a pier leading up to a beautiful wooden gazebo, perfect for sunset photos.

Staff –

I can’t express how amazing the staff team at Secrets Silversands are. They are always friendly and readily available to be of assistance. It comes across as though nothing is too much to ask, which definitely enhances the ‘paradise’ holiday experience the hotel aim to provide. The ‘entertainment’ staff work tirelessly to ensure the guests are enjoying their stay, whether it be initiating games by the pool to bike rides exploring Playa Del Carmen (the nearest town to the hotel). Also, all of the staff I came into contact with spoke great English, which makes it easier for guests and staff alike to communicate with one another.

To sum up, Secrets Silversands made my trip to Mexico a great experience in every way, and I will not hesitate to go back.

I know this post has been quite long, so if you’ve got this far, thank you for reading until the end! I really wanted to capture the main features of Secrets Silversands, as it truly was a trip to remember!

Side note – This is my first hotel review so please excuse the lack of pictures in this post. I decided to create this blog after my trip, and so hope to have more photos for my next review!
