Hidden in the Yorkshire Wolds, within the small village of Bishop Wilton, lies Wold’s Edge lodges.
Upon entering Wolds Edge, which is nestled amongst the wild life and scenic greenery, I was in complete awe of the quiet, blissful surroundings. Coming from London where air pollution is rife, it was a breath of fresh air to have my nose filled with that of nature and the outdoors.
Wold’s Edge is a family run business which really gives the experience a personal touch. The owner (Ruth), really goes above and beyond for guests, which is truly appreciated.
I stayed in Lillydale Lodge, which is one of five individual and unique lodges, for a long weekend. It is perfectly decorated, well furnished and spacious. While it is luxurious, it does have small homely touches that made me feel right at home. On arrival, I was greeted with a breakfast basket which included locally sourced jam, home-made croissants and chilled Prosecco. This was not only a lovely gesture but it also sorted out breakfast for the next morning as all of Wold’s Edge lodges are self-catering.
The lodge has an open-plan layout and is decorated with a neutral colour scheme which really makes it feel beautifully light with plenty of space. The lodge features one bedroom, a super-size bed, a free standing bathtub (perfect for a long soak), dressing room and living area. There is also a modern, fully equipped kitchen with all of the kitchen essentials you could possibly need.
You can either bring your own ingredients to cook your meals during your stay or you can order from one of the many takeaways within a ten minute drive from Wold’s Edge (Chinese, Indian, traditional fish and chips to name a few).
Moreover, Lillydale hosts a private, outdoor, wooden decking area with a hot tub which really is the icing on the cake. It was lovely being able to relax in the hot tub, listening to the birds chirp, first thing in the morning. I was also able to play music at a high volume, without disturbing any other guests, as all of the lodges have a nice gap between them.
It is useful to know that all of the Wold’s Edge lodges offer free WiFi. I was able to check my Instagram and Snapchat to my heart’s content (lol).
For those wanting to explore whilst at Wold’s Edge, it is only 15 miles to the centre of the historic city of York and is within easy reach of the beautiful East Yorkshire Coast. The setting also offers fantastic walking and cycling routes for guests to discover the hidden gems of the Yorkshire Wold’s.
On a final note, I would definitely recommend Lillydale lodge to couples looking for a romantic hideaway.
I would also recommend Wold’s Edge lodges as a whole, to anyone looking for a unique getaway in the country to really escape from the hustle and bustle of reality.
If you know any unique getaway spots in the U.K, let me know of them, I’d love to visit some new places!
