First off, I am a HUGE doughnut lover. All flavours and kinds, traditional or unique, I love them all!
I initially saw a picture of Dum Dum’s ‘Nutty Flakes’ Cro (a croissant-doughnut pastry which is pictured above) on Instagram and I was transfixed. I HAD to have it. I did some digging and found that Dum Dum’s sell a variety of doughnuts, from the classic ‘Yum Yum’ to the innovative ‘Dubai Donut’ and ‘Cro-Nutella’.
Quick Fact – Dum Dum doughnuts are the leading and fastest growing doughnut brand in the UK.
Moreover, Dum Dum’s have three London locations – Boxpark Shoreditch, Boxpark Croydon and Harrods.
I ventured to the Shoreditch location where my nose was aroused by the heavenly smell. The air was thick with a warm, sweet and inviting scent. From that moment, I knew that my diet was out of the window.
I visited on a late Friday afternoon and all of the doughnuts still looked delicious and extremely fresh. They are also all baked (rather than fried) and made with only natural ingredients – which makes them healthy right?
As if the doughnuts and cro’s aren’t enough, Dum Dum’s also have their own creation; the Crone (croissant-doughnut ice-cream cone) on offer, as well as, giant doughnut cakes and a variety of hot drinks.
I was served by Bella who literally knows all there is to know about the doughnuts. If you too are served by her, you’re in for a treat (literally). She pointed me towards Dum Dum’s bestsellers, which I tasted purely for this review’s sake (just slightly delusional lol).
My top three Dum Dum doughnuts are;
- Nutty Flakes (top row, middle) – This is the cro that lead me to Dum Dum’s and believe me, it did not disappoint. It has a vanilla buttercream filling with fresh cream and crunchy nut cornflakes sprinkled on top. I’m drooling just writing about it.
- Yum Yum (bottom row, left) – Dum Dum’s take on this classic includes an all-butter croissant, with a dulce de leche buttercream filling and a white and dark chocolate drizzle on top. The Yum Yum is absolutely divine, the pastry literally melts in your mouth.
- The Zebra (bottom row, middle) – This cro has indulgent chocolate layers between the croissant, a chocolate buttercream filling, topped with white and dark chocolate shavings and a touch of chocolate ganache. This cro is for the serious chocolate lovers (like myself) – even then, I could only manage half in one sitting.
All in all, whether you know it yet or not, Dum Dums Donutterie is the place for you! From those who like bold and innovative flavours, to those who prefer the classic ones – there is something for everyone at Dum Dum’s.
Go on, give it a try, I dare you 😉 – and tell them I sent you!
